GLNG: TotalEnergies seeks to get Papua LNG project back on track

Supermajor TotalEnergies is renewing its push to move the delayed Papua LNG project ahead, Construction Review reported on July 26.

According to the publication, the French energy company is expected to begin reengaging shortly with services companies to secure tenders for the construction bid of the proposed LNG facility, which would boast a production capacity of 5.6mn tonnes per year (tpy).

It marks a shift in fortunes for Papua LNG, which saw its final investment decision (FID) slated for April 2024 pushed back due to cost quotes for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) deemed to be unviable.

Rising costs have crippled a number of LNG projects recently. In May, Golden Pass LNG, a joint project between ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy being built in Texas, saw its main construction contractor Zachry Holdings file for bankruptcy protection.
