GLNG: US supplies almost half of Europe’s LNG imports in 2023

The US was Europe’s top supplier of LNG in 2023, marking the third consecutive year it has held that title according to new data from gas intelligence firm Cedigaz.

The data reveals that last year the US provided the 27 European Union members and the UK with 7.1bn cubic feet (201mn cubic metres) per day of LNG, which represents 48% of its total imports in 2023 of the super-chilled fuel.

The figure marks a small rise from 2022, when the US was responsible for supplying 6.5 bcf (184 mcm) per day of LNG to the region, roughly 44% of its total LNG imports.

However, it marks a substantial increase from 2021, when the region imported 2.4 bcf (68 mcm) per day of the super-cooled gas from the US, which was 27% of its total imports.
