GLNG: US tops global LNG exports in 2023 with record year

The US was the world’s largest exporter of LNG in 2023, with record exports pushing it ahead of the other LNG heavyweights Qatar and Australia. Shipments of the super-chilled fuel climbed by 14.7% in 2023 to reach a record high of 88.9mn tonnes, up from 77.5mn tonnes in 2022, according to data from the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

The US’s LNG’s exports soared to new heights largely on the back of two key factors. The return to full service of the country’s second largest LNG export facility Freeport LNG added 6mn tonnes.

Additionally, a full year of output from Venture Global LNG’s Calcasieu Pass plant in Louisiana contributed 3mn more tonnes than the facility provided in 2022 when it came fully online in May of that year.
