Iran's IRGC claims ballistic missile attack on USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier with four ballistic missiles, the force announced in its seventh operational communiqué on March 1, ILNA reported, citing Sepah News.

"The powerful strikes by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the exhausted military body of the enemy have entered a new phase, and land and sea will become an ever greater graveyard for terrorist aggressors," the IRGC statement said.

The IRGC described the attack as part of Operation True Promise 4, the name given to Iran's retaliatory campaign following the joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28 that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior military commanders.

The IRGC said further details would follow. There was no immediate confirmation from US military officials regarding the claimed strike on the carrier.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, has been deployed in the region as part of the US naval presence supporting operations against Iran. If confirmed, an attack on a US carrier would represent a significant escalation in the conflict.

The claimed strike came as Iran's armed forces said they had also targeted 14 US military bases across the region and carried out air force bombing raids against US positions in Gulf states and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
