Kazakhstan first and Uzbekistan fifth in 2022 global uranium output rankings

Kazakhstan was the world's largest uranium-producing country in 2022, accounting for 43% of uranium supply, according to data published by the World Nuclear Association (WNA).

In terms of production volume, Kazakhstan produced 21,227 tonnes of uranium last year, representing a 2.7% decrease year on year.

Neighbouring Uzbekistan ranked fifth globally in uranium production, producing 3,300 tonnes. Uzbekistan exports its entire stock of uranium as it does not process it domestically.

Canada was second behind Kazakhstan with 15% of world uranium production, while Namibia was third with 11%.

Kazakhstan's dominance in uranium production is attributed to its widespread use of in-situ leach (ISL) mining technology, which accounted for 56% of global production in 2022.
