LatAmOil: Biden administration has not ruled out revoking Chevron’s licence to operate in Venezuela
Chevron still may be facing complications in Venezuela, where it is one of the largest foreign drillers and where the presidential election remains contested amidst US sanctions.
The US has not ruled out revoking Chevron’s licence to operate in the South American country, before Maduro is sworn into office on January 10 or before President Joe Biden leaves office on January 20.
This was according to a comment by current US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on December 11 in the House of Representatives, as reported by Bloomberg.
“Everything is on the table right now, including in terms of the licences,” said Blinken at a hearing.
The US has sanctions in place against Venezuela, and much of the international community – including the US - does not recognise President Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro dubious claim that he won this summer’s election.
