LatAmOil: Suriname eyes cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago on gas

Suriname has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Trinidad and Tobago on energy co-operation, and sources familiar with the matter have informed Reuters that the document may enable the former country to transport natural gas to the latter.
The two countries concluded the MoU in Port of Spain on July 6. Subsequently, the news agency’s sources suggested that the memorandum might lead to the building of a pipeline capable of pumping production from fields offshore Suriname, which is not yet a commercial gas producer, to Trinidad and Tobago, which possesses a well-developed gas industry.
Port of Spain has been actively seeking avenues to expand its access to new sources of gas supply. According to official statistics, Trinidad and Tobago has the capacity to process approximately 4.2bn cubic feet (118.93mn cubic metres) per day of gas into LNG and petrochemicals. However, the country’s gas output currently stands at less than 2.7 bcf (76.46 mcm) per day. The MoU could help fill this gap.
