MEEI announced the start of the Shallow Water Competitive Bidding Round 2023 on October 3, saying that it would be accepting offers for the blocks until April 2, 2024. The winners will be identified four months after the close of the bidding period, it added.

The ministry named the sites that were included in the auctions as Block 1(b), Block 2(ab), Block 2(d), Block 4(c), Block 21, Block 22(a), Block 22(b), Block NCMA 2, Block NCMA 3, Block NCMA 4(a), Block Lower Reverse L, Block Modified U(c) and Guayaguayare (Offshore). All 13 blocks are located on Trinidad and Tobago’s continental shelf, near areas that are already yielding crude oil and/or natural gas, MEEI stated.
