LatAmOil: Venezuela outlines 2025 energy strategy following ministry restructuring

Venezuela’s Minister for Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, convened a high-level meeting with the board of directors of state-owned oil giant Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) to outline the country’s energy production strategy for 2025.

The discussions focused on advancing the development of Venezuela’s vast energy resources, El Universal reported.

The meeting also served as a platform to announce the restructuring of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, which has been renamed as part of a broader strategy to strengthen oversight and policymaking capabilities. The changes are intended to better leverage the nation’s significant hydrocarbon reserves and position Venezuela as a key energy player.

According to Rodriguez’s statement in social media, the restructured ministry will prioritise strengthening oversight, diversifying production and incorporating artificial intelligence into operational strategies.

Highlighting the role of technology in this transformation, Rodríguez had announced in December plans to adopt artificial intelligence in production processes to enhance efficiency and output. She credited President Nicolás Maduro for spearheading the initiative, describing it as a strategic move to position Venezuela as an energy leader.

The vice president expressed optimism about Venezuela’s future as a gas-exporting nation, projecting that the country’s first gas exports could materialise by 2026 or 2027. “We have immense hope for the future. Venezuela is an energy powerhouse, and this transformation will help us realise our potential,” Rodríguez said.
