MEOG: ADNOC signs EPC deals for Bab, Bu Hasa expansion

The onshore development directorate of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) this week awarded deals to a Chinese contractor for the expansion of production from two key oilfields.

ADNOC Onshore awarded China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Co. (CPECC), a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), an engineering, procurement, construction and management (EPCM) contract covering the construction, expansion and management of ground facilities at the fields which currently have the capacity to produce a combined 1.1mn barrels per day (bpd).

ADNOC Onshore contributes more than half of the company’s 4.2mn bpd capacity, mainly from Bu Hasa (650,000 bpd), Bab and Asab (both around 450,000 bpd).

Following completion of the four-and-a-quarter-year project, Bab’s capacity is expected to increase by 91,000 bpd (to 541,000 bpd) and Bu Hasa by 100,000 bpd (to 750,000 bpd).

Earlier in the year, CPECC was awarded a contract covering retooling existing facilities at Bab, Northeast Bab and the South East Asset (SEA) operating area, which includes Asab, Mender, Sahil, Shah and Qusahwira.

The contracts support ADNOC’s plans to raise production capacity in the emirates to 5mn bpd by 2027, with the target having been brought forward three years.
