MEOG: China’s HBP wins Majnoon subcontract

China Oil HBP Science & Technology last week won a contract to support the development of a crude processing facility at Iraq’s supergiant Majnoon oilfield in the southern Basra Governorate.

The contract, which covers the upgrading and reconstruction of the DS2 water-bearing crude oil processing and transportation station at Majnoon, is valued at an estimated $185mn. It was awarded by lead contractor and fellow Chinese firm Anton Oilfield Services Group DMCC (Antonoil).

Just over a year ago, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil (MoO) announced that that two water treatment plants had been inaugurated at Majnoon with 28 production wells drilled and tied-in targeting the Hartha, Al-Zubair, Ibn Omar and Mishrif formations. “All wells were connected and introduced to the production facilities to produce sweet oil, which contributes to improve the quality of oil,” the MoO said.

It noted that the water treatment projects included the construction of a 12-node pipeline running 28 km from the Shatt al-Arab waterway to Majnoon’s first central processing facility (CPF1), with associated infrastructure including a pumping station and a filtration and treatment unit.

In late February 2022, state-owned Iraqi Drilling Co. (IDC) kicked off drilling at the first of a 43-well drilling campaign on behalf of MoO-controlled subsidiary BOC.
