MEOG: FEED deal and FPSO arrival

This week’s MEOG includes coverage of a major FEED contract award in Qatar and the arrival of an FPSO in Israel.

US engineer McDermott International was awarded an engineering contract by Qatar’s North Oil Co. (NOC) for the third phase development of Qatar’s offshore Al-Shaheen oilfield. NOC is a 70:30 JV between state-owned QatarEnergy and France’s TotalEnergies.

The deal covers the front-end engineering and design (FEED) work on the Ruya development, previously known as Al-Shaheen Phase 3-Batch 1 or Gallaf 3.1. The company was widely seen as the front-runner in the bidding process for the award, having been awarded the contract for pre-FEED work in 2021 and its successful completion.

McDermott said that the scope of the work includes developing FEED studies and deliverables for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) project.

Meanwhile, London and Tel Aviv-listed Energean’s production unit has arrived in Israeli waters in preparation for the start of development at the Karish gas field. The Energean Power FPSO reached the Eastern Mediterranean via the Suez Canal – the first time such a unit has traversed the waterway – to conclude a 35-day journey from Sembcorp Marine’s Admiralty Yard in Singapore.

Mathios Rigas, Energean CEO, said the FPSO’s arrival “marks a major step forward in delivering first gas from Karish, which remains on track for Q3 2022. We look forward to continuing our progress through Karish first gas, the commercialisation of the newly defined Olympus Area and contributing to energy security and competition of supply for the region.”

The company said it would begin hook-up and commissioning operations for the FPSO, which include “risers and jumpers installation as well as the commissioning of the sales gas pipeline”. It added that commissioning was expected to take around three to four months.
