MEOG: Gulf E&P uptick

This week’s MEOG includes coverage of the continued resurgence in Middle Eastern E&P.

A Kuwait-Saudi working group focused on the development of joint oil and gas projects met this week to discuss the acceleration of efforts in their Partitioned Neutral Zone (PNZ).

The expansion of production from the shared on- and offshore assets comes as both countries work to raise total domestic oil capacity and are under pressure to meet higher OPEC+ quotas while maintaining spare capacity.

The Permanent Joint Committee for the PNZ, also known as the divided zone, is comprised of officials from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil (MoO) and the Saudi Ministry of Energy. The meeting was held at the head office of the Wafra Joint Operations (WJO) company.

Meanwhile, the governor of Iraq’s north-western Nineveh Governorate said last week that a state oil firm has discovered new oil and gas resources in the region.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency, Najm al-Jubouri said that the Iraqi Oil Exploration Co. (IOEC), a subsidiary of the Iraqi National Oil Co. (INOC), has discovered “several very large fields in the Qayyarah and Tal Afar regions, and Iraqi exploration companies are still continuing” their work in the province.

Alluding to the regular and widespread unrest in Nineveh, al-Jubouri said the governorate has been providing IOEC with “strict security and great co-operation”.
