MEOG: IDC completes another Zubair well

The state-owned Iraqi Drilling Co. (IDC) this week announced that it has completed drilling well 579 at the Zubair oilfield in the south-east of the country.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), an IDC spokesperson said that “technical and engineering personnel have completed drilling the directional oilwell Zubair 579 at a depth of 2,472 metres.”

IDC and US services specialist Schlumberger on a 37-well drilling campaign that will enable the field’s operator to increase production capacity from the current 475,000 barrels per day to 850,000 bpd by 2027. IDC noted that the latest well was the 14th to have been completed under the ongoing project.

The IDC representative said that the well was drilled using the company’s IDC 38 drilling rig, noting that the unit would now be relocated to another Zubair drill site to begin work on well 566.

Zubair is home to around 6.4bn barrels of oil, with Eni holding the technical service contract (TSC) for development of these reserves.
