MEOG: Iraq announces oil, gas project updates

Iraq has announced the completion of an oil project, while progress was also reported on a major gas capture development. The Ministry of Oil (MoO) reported first that the first phase of the central processing plant (CPF) for the southern Al-Faihaa oilfield has been inaugurated, with the South Gas Co. (SGC) noting later that the Nassiriyah gas capture and processing project is now 60% complete.

Speaking during a ceremony to launch operations at the CPF in Basra Governate, Oil Minister Hayan Abdulghani said that the MoO has “succeeded in transforming the Al-Faiha exploration area into a producing oilfield”, targeting the Yamamah, Mishrif and Zubair reservoirs to produce 100,000 barrels per day (bpd).

He noted that the MoO has developed a plan for associated gas from the field to be processed at a plant with a capacity of 125mn cubic feet (3.54mn cubic metres) per day, which is expected to come into operation by the end of the year.
