MEOG: Iraq kicks off projects at West Qurna-1

Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdulghani this week inaugurated several projects that are key to the further development and future expansion of the West Qurna-1 oilfield.

During the project inauguration, Abdulghani stated, according to a statement by the Ministry of Oil received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “These projects include the associated water treatment unit project with a capacity of 235,000 barrels per day (bpd). The station consists of three treatment units using the centrifugal method, with the installation of 2 tanks with a capacity of 10,000 cubic metres.”

He said that the project’s objective is to “optimise the use of water for treating the associated water injection operations in the main reservoir layer. This aims to reduce pollution and increase reservoir pressure to sustain and enhance oil production.” Aldulghani noted that the project “is one of the vital projects for reservoir support” at West Qurna-1.

Abdulghani added: “The other inaugurated project is the Sixth Station project, which connects old projects with new ones to improve infrastructure, alleviate bottlenecks, and ensure a continuous flow in the crude oil transportation process without interrupting production. This is achieved through the implementation and operation of an advanced modern control system and the construction of an integrated extinguishing system.”
