MEOG: KOC tenders for Bahra expansion

The state-owned Kuwait Oil Co. (KOC) is launching bids for consultancy services aimed at accelerating the development of the Bahra oilfield, situated in the northern reaches of the country.

According to reports from the Arabic language daily Al-Anba, the Bahra field, a linchpin of Kuwait’s oil production, is earmarked for substantial expansion. Anticipated to amplify output to nearly 145,000 barrels per day (bpd), this endeavour dovetails with Kuwait’s long-term oil production strategy.

Bahra is located near Kuwait Bay in the country’s northern domain. Kuwait envisions enhancing the field’s production to 145,000 bpd in line with the KOC’s strategic objectives through 2040.

It is one of field fields in the giant Northern Fields cluster, alongside Raudhatain, Sabriyah, Abdali and Ratqa, which had a production capacity of 700,000 bpd in 2022, with Wood Mackenzie estimating total remaining reserves at 13.2bn barrels of oil, 223mn barrels of condensate and 403bn cubic metres of gas.

KOC has initiated tendering process with international firms in conducting consulting studies on the Bahra field, forming part of a distinctive programme aimed at transferring expertise from unconventional contractors for the field’s development. The selected consultant will harness cutting-edge industry capabilities and employ a continuous learning model to enhance production development and inventory management practices.
