MEOG: Qatar to supply LNG to Netherlands

State-owned QatarEnergy and IOC partner Shell this week signed two long-term sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) to supply up to 3.5mn tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG from Qatar to the Netherlands.

The gas will be delivered to Rotterdam’s Gate LNG terminal beginning in 2026 and will run for a period of 27 years. It will be sourced from two joint venture project companies that were set up last year between QatarEnergy and Shell last year for the North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) expansion projects, in which the London-based IOC acquired stakes of 6.25%.

The deals were signed by Qatari Energy Minister and president and CEO of QatarEnergy HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi and Shell’s CEO Wael Sawan in Doha.

Al-Kaabi said: “We are delighted to sign these two long-term LNG sale and purchase agreements with Shell that will further enhance our decades-long relationship and strategic partnership in Qatar and around the world.”

NFE and NFS will raise Qatar’s liquefaction capacity from the current level of 77mn tpy to 126mn tpy by 2027. The NFE development comprises the drilling of 80 wells, installation of eight offshore platforms, gas pipelines and four 8mn tpy LNG trains.
