REM: EDPR enters Chile with 628-MW wind, solar portfolio

EDP Renewables (EDPR), part of the Portuguese electric utilities company EDP Group, has reached agreements to purchase a 628-MW wind and solar portfolio in Chile, with commercial operations to start in 2023-2025.

The deal reinforces EDPR’s strategic presence in Latin America, where it currently has 0.4 GW of operating capacity in Brazil. EDPR is also developing 1.6 GW in the Brazilian and Colombian markets.

In Chile, renewable electricity from solar and wind power represents nearly 20% of the country’s energy supply, and the volume of renewables is anticipated to increase every year, according to US law firm DLA Piper.
