REM: Germany awards 587 MW of solar and storage project in tender

Solar and storage were the big winners in Germany’s innovation tender as Germany’s Federal Network Agency selected 587 MW of combined solar and storage projects, the agency revealed on October 15.

The tender, which closed on September 2, was oversubscribed receiving more than 150 bids for a total capacity of 1,856 MW. The power regulator selected 50 winning bids.

Solar and storage dominated the selection of winning bids. No biomethane proposals were selected, with just one bid submitted. Project proposals for combining wind power and storage units were received for the first time, however, all the bids were unsuccessful.

The auction saw successful bids ranging from €0.0674 per kWh and €0.0745 per kWh. The price range landed below the maximum value of €0.0918, which marked a 25% increase from March 2023 to account for higher project costs.

The innovation tender’s price range was also below the volume-weighted average price of €0.0833, which was achieved in the previous round in May when 512 MW of solar-plus storage projects were awarded in an undersubscribed auction which had been given a capacity of 583 MW.

Bavaria was the top performing region in Germany, securing 25 projects worth a combined capacity of 227 MW. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was the next best performing region with seven projects awarded for a combined 115 MW.
