REM: Germany, Denmark sign offshore wind co-operation agreement

Germany and Denmark have signed a legally binding co-operation agreement on offshore wind energy, according to the German Economy Ministry.
Under the deal, at least 3 GW of wind energy capacity from Denmark’s Bornholm Energy Island in the Baltic Sea would be connected to the mainland by the early 2030s. Of this, 2 GW would be transmitted to Germany and 1.2 GW to mainland Denmark. The German and Danish transmission system operators (TSOs) – 50Hertz and Energinet respectively – are reported to have agreed to each cover half of the infrastructure costs involved in the project.
This is the first legally binding co-operation agreement on a joint offshore energy project under the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive. It is also being touted as underpinning the Bornholm Energy Island project.
