REM: Pattern to supply Uniper from 1,050-MW Western Spirit wind project in New Mexico
Richard Lockhart in Edinburgh 30 May 2021
Pattern Energy is to supply Germany’s Uniper with electricity from the 1,050-MW Western Spirit wind farm in New Mexico in the south-western US.
Under the 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Uniper will receive up to 219,000 MWh of electricity a year.
The agreement is important because Western Spirit is the largest single-phase renewables project ever planned in the US, according to San Francisco-based Pattern.
Western Spirit 377 GE turbines will all be operating by the end of 2021, says Pattern.
The output of the projects will be collected by Pattern’s 155-mile (248-km) 345-kV Western Spirit transmission line, which will transport the electricity to near Albuquerque, the state’s largest city.
