Trump warns US forces will remain in place around Iran until 'real agreement' is complied with

US President Donald Trump said on April 8 that all American military forces, ships and aircraft would remain deployed in and around Iran until the terms of the ceasefire agreement are fully met, warning that otherwise "the shootin' starts, bigger, and better, and stronger than anyone has ever seen before."

"All US ships, aircraft, and military personnel, with additional ammunition, weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary... will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the real agreement reached is fully complied with," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president said it had been "agreed, a long time ago, and despite all of the fake rhetoric to the contrary" that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz "will be open and safe."

Trump described Iran's military as "already substantially degraded" and said US forces were "loading up and resting, looking forward, actually, to its next conquest."

The post came as both sides traded accusations of ceasefire violations on the first day of the truce. Iran accused the US of breaching three clauses of its 10-point framework, citing continued Israeli operations in Lebanon, an airspace incursion over Fars Province and denial of its right to uranium enrichment. Tehran warned that "a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable" under such conditions.

Iranian forces, meanwhile, struck Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia with drones and missiles on the same day the ceasefire took effect. The UAE said Iran had fired 2,819 ballistic and cruise missiles and drones at the country over 40 days.

US and Iranian delegations are due to meet in Islamabad on April 10, with Iran's 10-point proposal as the framework for talks.
