UK’s BVG Associates and World Bank ‘set to assess Azerbaijan’s offshore wind potential’

UK-based consultancy BVG Associates is working with the government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank to assess Azerbaijan’s offshore wind potential, offshoreWIND.biz reported on May 4.

Azerbaijan lately signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) to cooperate in offshore wind energy.

BVG Associates’ work will reportedly develop a roadmap for offshore wind.

Other objectives of the MoU include the promotion of renewable energy use and supporting private sector participation in improving the energy sector’s financial sustainability and efficiency.

BVGA is set to work with the World Bank team to establish the best locations for Azerbaijan offshore wind, partly by using a demonstration project.

The roadmap, according to the trade journal report, will combine geospatial analysis, cost modelling and economic analysis, supply chain and infrastructure assessment, consideration of social and environmental impacts and detailed industry and stakeholder consultation.

BVGA will work with technical support from Atkins and Encotec in Azerbaijan.
