AsiaElec: Japan plans to jump aboard the hydrogen bandwagon

The Japanese government will revamp its national hydrogen make-up by May 31, according to reports from Tokyo.

The move is the latest aimed at keeping Japan competitive in both regional and global hydrogen markets as demand for the fuel increases and usages develop in the years ahead.

Initial details released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) point to a target of 12mn tonnes per year (tpy) of hydrogen production by 2040.

This figure will then be increased further to a predicted 20mn tpy by 2050, according to METI.
