AsiaElec: Manila set to roar onto the East Asian renewables stage

As a nation often overlooked in recent years as much of Asia has been coming to terms with the fact that coal power will one day be replaced by renewables, the Philippines is starting to wake up.

And the manner in which the nation is opening its eyes to renewables is none too demure.

From one-time regional backwater in terms of renewables investments, the government of President Bongbong Marcos in Manila is now spearheading a charge towards green installations. So much so that the pace of change across the archipelago is starting to be noticed elsewhere in Asia.

Floating solar installations are a leading example. Plans for new projects have been popping up at a number of sites in and around the nation’s capital.
