AsiaElec: Singapore-Thailand JV starts work at new PV project in the Philippines

A joint venture firm owned and operated by Nexif Energy of Singapore and Thailand’s RATCH Group, known as NEXIF RATCH Energy (NRE), is adding to its already impressive power generation holdings of over 4 GW across Australia and Southeast Asia.

And although small in comparison to the parent company’s total holdings, the start of construction at a 74-MW solar project in Calabanga, on the island of Luzon in the northern Philippines, is a major step forward for both sides; Manila is this year really taking significant steps towards expanding its nationwide renewables capacity, and NRE aiming to increase its own installations in the country.

When complete the project will sell the bulk of the power produced, around 85%, to subsidiaries of Manila-based AboitizPower Corp. with the remainder going to the local Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

A planned construction finish date late in the first half of 2024 will be followed soon after by the project being brought online to add further to the ever-expanding renewables footprint of projects across the Philippines.
