AsiaElec: The world’s largest solar plant comes online, in China

A Chinese solar plant, touted as the world's largest, has commenced operations, while boasting an annual capacity exceeding 6bn kWh sufficient to power a small country. The facility, situated in the disputed desert region of Xinjiang province in northwest China, also known as East Turkestan, spans 200,000 acres, approximately the size of New York City. The 5-GW complex was integrated into China’s grid on June 2 and could, if needed meet the electricity needs of a nation the size of Luxembourg or Papua New Guinea.
