BCPG to invest $945mn in power projects, prioritising clean energy
BCPG Plc, the power generation arm of Bangchak Corporation, plans to invest over THB32bn ($945mn) in 2025 to fund new power projects, primarily focused on clean energy sources, as reported by Bangkok Post.
This significant investment, a tenfold increase from 2023, will be directed towards solar and wind farms in Laos and Vietnam, as well as domestic projects aimed at supplying electricity to the manufacturing sector in Thailand. BCPG recently expanded its Southeast Asian footprint by acquiring two wind farms in Vietnam, totalling 99 MW.
This follows an earlier investment in a wind farm in Laos. Additionally, the company is allocating THB13.6bn to finance ongoing projects, including solar energy projects in Taiwan with a combined capacity of 100 MW. The 600 MW Monsoon Vind Power Plant in Laos, spanning 400,000 rai, is also under development to supply electricity to Vietnam's state grid.
BCPG's strategy involves expanding its power generation capacity to 2,800 MW by 2030, with a significant shift towards clean energy. The company aims to increase the proportion of clean power from 38% to 70%, while reducing gas-based electricity from 62% to 30%. Beyond Southeast Asia, BCPG is exploring opportunities in the Philippines, Australia, and US to capitalise on the growing demand for renewable energy.
