DMEA: CNOOC to construct LPG facility in Uganda

Uganda has issued a licence to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Uganda Ltd. to construct a new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility near Lake Albert.

While handing over the licence, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Ruth Nankabirwa noted that LPG production from the Chinese oil major was expected to peak at around 20,000 tonnes per year (tpy) from the Kingfisher Development Area facility.

"LPG production is consistent with our national development objectives of energy use in Uganda. We expect that the increased supply, together with focused market penetration interventions, will stimulate increased consumption to the desired levels, necessary to cause a shift from high dependence on biomass to the use of cleaner fuels," she said, as quoted by Xinhua.
