DMEA: Iraq concludes studies ahead of Nebras development
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil (MoO) announced this week that technical and economic studies have been completed for the Nebras petrochemical project.
Spokesperson for the MoO, Asem Jihad, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “One of the projects that depend on gas utilisation in southern Iraq is the Nebras project, which the Ministry of Oil is working on in co-operation with the Ministry of Industry and Shell.”
Jihad added: “Technical and economic studies for the Nebras Petrochemicals project have been prepared, and several sessions have been held to discuss these studies.”
He noted that the government hoped the project would be a pioneer in Iraq and the region in which it was located. “We are waiting for all technical and contractual aspects and studies to be completed to announce the start of the project,” Jihad said.
He also noted that work on the 300,000 barrel per day (bpd) Al-Faw refinery would begin once an agreement has been reached with a partner company or a consortium of firms.
