DMEA: QatarEnergy to build new urea fertiliser plant

QatarEnergy has revealed that it will be constructing a new urea fertiliser plant at Mesaieed Industrial City that will make Qatar the largest urea exporter in the world by 2030.

The plant is expected to double the country’s annual production capacity to 12.4mn tonnes and will help Qatar grow its economy while supporting global food security – according to the Gulf Times.

According to Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, (who unveiled the project at a press conference at QatarEnergy headquarters on September 1) the facility will also include the construction of three ammonia production lines that will supply feedstock to the new plant.
