DMEA: Security firm claims 90% of Nigerian diesel supplied by illegal refineries

A Nigerian private security service has alleged that more than 90% of the country’s diesel is supplied by illegal refineries operating in the Delta region.

Tantita Security Services – a company specialising in guarding oil infrastructure – revealed the information through its executive director of operations and technical, Warredi Enisuo, who spoke as part of a panel following Nigerian Oil Gas Energy Week in Abuja – according to Nigerian media outlet Vanguard News.

Enisuo said that illegal refineries had been primarily responsible for maintaining a strong supply of diesel following the de-regulation of prices, and that both the government and oil companies had been reimbursing the refiners for their services in a bid to cut operational costs.
