DMEA: SS Lootah Group to turn used cooking oil into biofuel

Dubai-based company SS Lootah Group is set to produce biofuel from used cooking oil through its subsidiary Lootah Biofuels in a bid to reduce CO2 emissions in the UAE.

The company aims to ensure that any biofuel produced will be cheaper than fossil-based counterparts, and currently operates numerous fuel outlets across Dubai, providing 60mn litres per year of fuel.

The move towards recycling cooking oil originated with the executive director of SS Lootah Group, Yousif Bin Saeed Al Lootah, who mentioned that he wanted the UAE to be the first country in the region to “mandate that biofuels blends be featured alongside other fuel in all public stations.”
