DMEA: Trade union urges Port Harcourt to begin production

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria has urged the Nigerian government to push the Port Harcourt refinery to begin production by the end of Q1 2024, according to TUC President Festus Osifo – who released a statement on February 26 during a press briefing in Abuja.

The briefing preceded the outbreak of a nationwide protest organised by the Nigerian Labour Congress over a cost-of-living crisis.

“The congress visited the Port Harcourt Refinery about a week ago to inspect the state of the rehabilitation of both the old and new refineries,” Osifo noted. “We are demanding that crude production from the old Port Harcourt refinery must commence before the end of first quarter of 2024.”
