Gensol Engineering, Matrix Gas secure green hydrogen valley project in India
Gensol Engineering Limited, in partnership with Matrix Gas & Renewables, has been awarded the contract to establish a green hydrogen valley in Pune, Maharashtra, as per a stock exchange filing by Gensol on September 11.
The Gensol-Matrix consortium will develop the project on a build, own, and operate (BOO) model, supplying green hydrogen to the specialty chemical sector under a 20-year offtake agreement.
Anmol Jaggi, managing director of Gensol Engineering said that the Indian government’s support for hydrogen valleys through the Department of Science & Technology is a significant step. The project will supply green hydrogen to Pune’s specialty chemical sector on a continuous basis, helping to grow India’s green hydrogen economy.
Chirag Kotecha, whole-time director of Matrix Gas & Renewables, said that the National Chemicals Laboratories (NCL) is facilitating the project.
The consortium recently emerged as the lowest bidder for India’s first bio-hydrogen project, which will convert 25 tonnes of bio-waste into 1mn tonne of hydrogen daily. The INR1.64bn ($20mn) bio-hydrogen project is likely to be ready within one and a half years. Gensol and Matrix will continue their collaboration in the green hydrogen space, with plans to explore derivatives such as green steel and green ammonia.
