Glenfarne issues Limited Notice to Proceed to Kiewit for Texas LNG
US LNG developer Glenfarne Group has granted Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) to American contractor Kiewit for its Texas LNG export terminal located at the port of Brownsville, Glenfarne announced on July 2.
The LNTP gives Kiewit the greenlight for purchase orders for long-lead equipment, engineering activities for the EPC phase, and geotechnical work needed to prepare Texas LNG for full construction and making a final investment decision (FID) on the 4 mn tonnes per year (tpy) LNG plant.
“By progressing key equipment, engineering, and site-readiness work during LNTP, we are maintaining project momentum, improving execution certainty, and positioning Texas LNG to move efficiently into full construction,” said Brendan Duval, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Glenfarne.
In March, Glenfarne inked an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) deal with Kiewit for the firm to carry out the engineering, procurement of equipment, module fabrication, construction and commissioning of the facility.
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has already issued a final supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) for the project.
The two companies first agreed to work together in November 2024, when Kiewit was selected as lead contractor for the project.
The export terminal will be built on a 625-acre (253-hectare) site that will have the advantage of easy access to the lost-cost Eagle Ford and Permian Basin gas reserves for feed gas.
The facility will also utilise an electric motor compressor powered by renewable energy. The compressor will reduce the plant’s carbon emissions and improve the green credentials of the facility.
Glenfarne has already secured a handful of buyers. Among the customers Glenfarne has inked deals with already are Gunvor, EQT Corporation, Macquarie Group, and German utility RWE.
Glenfarne’s North American LNG portfolio totals 32.8 mn tpy of capacity under development in Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska.
