Kuwait Petroleum to start gas production from Alexandria's West Mina field in Q4 2026
Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced it would invest in a major gas exploration project within the West Mina offshore area near the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria, Al-Seyassah reported on June 11.
Initial production from the field is scheduled to start in Q4 2026, with the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) holding a 40% stake in the venture.
As part of efforts to intensify foreign investments in Egypt’s oil and gas sectors, KPC Chief Executive Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Sabah recently met Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi. The officials discussed expanding KUFPEC-Egypt operations and utilising KPC’s expertise to benefit the Egyptian energy sector. Badawi presented promising new opportunities in the Red Sea, Mediterranean, and Western Desert regions. The meeting also focused on deploying modern technologies, sharing reservoir management expertise, and boosting production rates.
The North East Amriya Block 3 in Alexandria serves as a cornerstone for gas production in the Delta basin, with reserves estimated at 200 trillion cubic feet. The block contains two significant discoveries: the West Meena 1X well, a shallow-water gas and condensate discovery currently under development, and the Khufu R1 deep, high-pressure well, which confirmed gas in the Lower Miocene sands. Integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into 3D seismic data processing has significantly enhanced subsurface imaging quality and accelerated future exploration decisions.
KUFPEC currently operates across 10 countries with a portfolio of 30 projects globally, managed via seven international offices in Australia, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Pakistan.
