LatAmOil: Shell rumoured to be considering investment in Argentinian LNG project
Supermajor Shell is being tabbed as a new potential partner in Argentina’s huge LNG export terminal to be built in Patagonia, Reuters reported on November 12.
Citing local media La Nacion, Argentine President Javier Milei’s cabinet chief suggested Shell could become an investor in the country’s huge LNG export terminal to be built in Sierra Grande in the country’s southern Patagonia region.
Speaking at an event, Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos stated that Shell has demonstrated “strong interest” in investing in Argentina’s fledgling LNG sector.
For its part, Shell has neither confirmed or denied its interest, but in an email to Reuters the company stated “We are always exploring opportunities to improve our portfolio.”
Shell’s rumoured interest in the huge $55bn LNG project comes just days after Argentina's national oil company YPF declared it is looking for new equity partners as uncertainty has emerged over the continued involvement of Malaysia’s Petronas.
