NorthAmOil: Trump planning executive order to remove LNG ban

President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to lift the temporary ban on LNG export approvals for new projects as a day one priority is beginning to take shape.

Trump’s transition team is in the midst of preparing an executive order to end the temporary moratorium on LNG export approvals, sources familiar with the subject told Bloomberg on November 25.

The lift of the LNG ban is expected to be rolled into a much larger package of actions Trump is planning to take in his first few days in office that will shake up US energy policy.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, one likely outcome might be that an LNG executive order could mandate that the US Department of Energy (DoE) authorises pending export permits.

However, another possible outcome could be that the executive order calls on the DoE to complete its review of permit licences.

Meanwhile, initial actions once Trump is inaugurated on January 20 could also include measures to enable increased drilling for natural gas on federal lands and waters.
