OPEC+ to discuss Trump proposal on US oil output expansion

The OPEC+ alliance of major oil producers is set to deliberate on US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to expand American oil output, Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev told a briefing on January 29.
Trump last week outlined a broad energy strategy aimed at increasing US oil and gas production, including declaring a national energy emergency to fast-track permits and scale back environmental regulations. He has also urged the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), particularly Saudi Arabia, to lower crude prices, arguing that such a move could help end the war in Ukraine.
OPEC+, a coalition led by Saudi Arabia that includes Russia and Kazakhstan, has yet to respond formally to Trump’s remarks. However, the group has already planned a phased increase in output starting in April, gradually reversing previous supply cuts that had been extended due to sluggish global demand.
OPEC+ is scheduled to hold a Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee meeting on February 3, where it is expected the issue will be discussed.
"In the nearest future, a meeting is planned at the level of OPEC+ representatives, at which the organization's policy regarding the current situation will be discussed, including US plans to increase production volumes, and a coordinated position will be adopted," Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev told a briefing.
