AfrOil: Dangote Refinery prepares to receive first cargo of crude oil

Nigeria’s Dangote Group has revealed that its recently completed refinery is set to receive its inaugural cargo of crude within the next two weeks.

The plant, which is the largest single-train refinery in the world, was commissioned earlier this year, around 10 years after the start of construction. It is now due to start commercial oil-processing operations in October, according to Devakumar Edwin, the executive director of the Dangote Group.

Following a decade of delays since the project was first mooted in 2013, the refinery is ready to get to work, said Edwin, who is currently overseeing the $19.5bn downstream project. “Right now, I’m ready to receive crude ... [We] are just waiting for the first vessel. And so as soon as it comes in, we can start,” he told S&P Global Platts.
