The Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has made calls for “urgent coordinated action” and “strategic interventions” to fix ongoing issues of fuel scarcity in the country.
In a statement signed by Director General of NECA Adewale-Smart Oyerinde issued on May 5, the association expressed concerns at the continuous queues present at petrol stations around the country, thanks to lacklustre productivity and economic activity – despite the removal of fuel subsidies by Bola Tinubu in June 2023.
NECA highlighted that ongoing disruption to businesses as a result of fuel scarcity has led to increasing transportation and logistics bottlenecks that have in turn opened the door to increased operational costs.
