West Africa LPG Expo advocates for clean energy transition

Regional and global energy investors are preparing plans to actualise an effective method for a clean energy transition in West Africa at the 6th edition of the West Africa LPG Expo – an event designed to showcase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a viable energy solution for the region’s climate aims.

According to the event’s organisers, talks on ways to achieve 2060 net-zero emissions targets are likely to be a focal point.

Jeffery Leung, Director of the LPG Expo, noted that the programme aimed to support innovation, collaboration and sustainability in the sector, and added that LPG Exo had a strong track record of connecting thousands of industry professionals, and “continues to champion the transition to cleaner energy worldwide”.

Moreover, Leung also highlighted that the event had the support of the Nigeria Liquefied and Compressed Gas Association (NLCGA), Nigerian Gas Associations and France-based World Liquid Gas Association.

According to the official, Nigeria currently sits as Africa’s second-largest producer of LPG, and exists as a prime example in how to integrate LPG into the energy sector. “Through the Nigerian Energy Transition Plan, targeting net-zero emissions by 2060, significant investments have been made in LPG infrastructure, enhancing production, reducing imports, and expanding access,” he said, adding: “Neighbouring countries such as Ghana, Senegal, and Ivory Coast are also leveraging LPG to meet Africa’s 2030 clean cooking goals and reduce biomass dependency”.

Talking further on the exhibition, Leung remarked that the event would hold numerous innovations from 100 local and international exhibitors, while also featuring “over 50 expert speakers from the government, global investors, consultants and key LPG players in the region”.

Commenting further on Nigeria’s advancements, Leung noted that a separate event – the 2nd CNG Africa, Nigeria 2025 – would be running alongside. This particular event is expected to focus on the country’s Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG), which aims to increase the amount of CNG-powered vehicles on the road to 1mn by 2026.
